Bulgarian Army Helps People in Fresh Floodings

Varna, on the Black Sea, February 2 (BTA) - The Navy, as well as
the entire armed forces, are ready to render aid to people in
accidents and disasters, Chief of Defence Vice Admiral Roumen
Nikolov said on Monday. Nikolov recalled that on Sunday the army
helped the people in Smolyan, Southwestern Bulgaria, in the
latest wave of floodings. Nikolov is in Varna attending a
meeting of the Navy command which reviewed the performance of
the Navy in 2014.

Nikolov said that the Navy has worked very actively to maintain
a level of readiness and perform missions abroad. All vessels
which took part in international exercises did brilliantly,
Nikolov said, noting that this has been the assessment by
partner commands to which the Bulgarian crews were subordinated.

Approached by a reporter, Nikolov said that a check is underway
of army documentation and about the available opportunities for
mobilization. He said many Bulgarian men who can be mobilized
are either abroad or have health issues. "The leadership of the
armed forces must be clear about the full picture and this is
why regular checks are performed of the documentation and of the
available opportunities," Nikolov said. He said there about
3,000 reservists in Bulgaria. They have signed contracts with
the army and may carry out various commitments over given
periods of time.

Nikolov said also that on the Bulgarian border to Turkey the
army will provide transportation to the Interior Ministry,
repair works of vehicles, tent camps and logistic support.
Servicemen will not carry out assignments related to use of
weapons, he said.
