An international conference titled "Bulgaria in the Eurozone, When?" will be held in Sofia on May 14, said the organizers from the Association of Honorary Consuls in Bulgaria, CFA Society Bulgaria and the Association of Banks in Bulgaria. The meeting will discuss the challenges and the prospects for Bulgaria related to the planned euro changeover in the country.

Caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, Bulgarian National Bank Governor Dimitar Radev and experts from eurozone countries have been invited to the event.

There will be two discussion panels, one focusing on the political and social implications of the adoption of the single European currency in Bulgaria, and the other looking at the economic and financial prospects before and after acceding to the eurozone.

Speakers will analyze successful examples of nations which have adopted the euro. The foreign guests who are expected to share their experience will include Austria's former chancellor Wolfgang Schussel, Malta's former prime minister and current MEP Joseph Muscat, Romania's ex-prime minister Adrian Nastase, Cyprus' ex-finance minister Michael Sarris and Greece's former finance minister George Zanias.

CFA Society Bulgaria Managing Board Chair and former Bulgarian deputy prime minister Nikolay Vassilev commented: "The adoption of the euro will be a pivotal moment in Bulgaria's economic and financial history, which requires tangible and long-term strategies for a successful transition and stability. This event is aimed to support the immediate and trouble-free euro changeover and to reinforce Bulgaria's status as a reliable and integrated partner on the European and world financial markets."
