site.btaRuen Ship Hijacked by Pirates in December 2023 Arrives in Varna

The Ruen ship arrived in Varna and entered the local MTG Dolphin plant for repairs on Friday, confirmed to BTA Captain Alexander Kalchev, Executive Director of Navigation Maritime Bulgare.

The Ruen was hijacked by pirates in the Arabian Sea on December 14, 2023, with eight Bulgarians and ten foreign sailors on board. Under the pirates’ control, the ship reached the Somalia coast. The crew of the hijacked ship was released on March 16 with the help of the Indian Navy, said on that date outgoing foreign minister Mariya Gabriel.
