The Moldovan city of Taraclia will host a regional folk festival titled Preserving Traditions to mark the Day of Bessarabian Bulgarians on October 29. The event will be held at the Stepan Tanov House of Culture and will bring together amateur performers based in Gagauzia, Leova, and the Taraclia District, the head of the cultural institution told BTA. Among the festive events planned in Taraclia on this occasion will be a folk craft exhibition.
The Festival will be organized within the framework of the Moldovan Interethnic Relations Agency’s projects for the promotion of multilingualism and intercultural dialogue.
The aims of the organizers include the preservation of culture and folklore, the development of creativity, arts and relations between ethnic groups in Moldova, the revival and safeguarding of folklore traditions, the enhancement of their role and importance in contemporary artistic culture, the identification of the best folk performers.
The Day of the Bessarabian Bulgarians has been marked since 1938 by the descendants of the Bessarabian and Tavrian Bulgarians.
