The American University in Bulgaria (AUBG) will expand its campus in the spring, said Dr. Margee Ensign, President of AUBG, on Thursday. "We want to make a bigger mark both in the city and in the world", she said in her opening remarks at the traditional reception given by the university in honour of the good partnership between AUBG and the community of Blagoevgrad.

She also said that in the six months since she took office, she has become familiar with the close relationship developing between the city and AUBG for the past 30 years. She noted that the university teaches students democratic and ethical values so they can become leaders of the country, the region and the world. The university has 1,000 students but in the upcoming years plans to raise their number to 1,500-1,600, she added.

Blagoevgrad Mayor Metodi Baikushev confirmed the municipality's commitment to help the expansion of AUBG in terms of 50% more students as well as real success for the institution, which has global dimensions.
