On October 9, a press conference of the Director of the National Archaeological Institute with Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (NAIM-BAS), Hristo Popov, will open an exhibition marking the 105th anniversary of the discovery of the Trebenishte necropolis in North Macedonia, NAIM-BAS said on Thursday.

The exhibition will take place under the auspices of Bulgaria’s Culture Ministry and with support from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences as part of the 100 Years of Trebenishte project of the National Archaeological Museum at the BAS, the Archaeological Museum of the Republic of North Macedonia, Serbia’s National Museum, and the Institute for Protection of Monuments of Culture and Museum in Ohrid.

The press conference will be attended by the directors of the three partner museums: Hristo Popov of NAIM-BAS, Slavica Babamova of the Archaeological Museum of the Republic of North Macedonia, and Bojana Borić Brešković of Serbia’s National Museum.

The joint exhibition will display the artifacts in the graves of Trebenishte discovered by the Bulgarian Army during repair works in the last months of WWI. The artifacts were examined on the spot, and rescue archaeology was carried out despite the hostilities. The necropolis contains various valuable artifacts: military equipment, gold insignia, silver and bronze vessels, silver jewellery, all of which date the necropolis to the late 6th century BC.
