Treasures of Thracian kings, part of the exposition of the Plovdiv Regional Archaeological Museum, are to be displayed in several places outside the country, said Tuesday the Director of the museum, Prof. Kostadin Kisiov at a press conference on the occasion of the opening of an exhibition.

At the end of this year, some of the silver finds connected to Odrysian kings and discovered in Duvanli and Chernozemen, will visit North Macedonia as part of a representative gallery, Kisiov noted. Organizers will be the Culture Ministry, the National Archaeological Institute with Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Plovdiv Regional Archaeological Museum. The exhibits will remain abroad for three months, Kisiov added.

In 2024, the same exhibits will be displayed at one of the largest museums in the world – the Paul Getty Museum in the USA, where they will remain for a year together with the Panagyurishte Treasure, he explained and pointed out that the exhibition in the USA has been four years in the making.

Kissov thanked the Plovdiv Municipality and stressed that the archaeologists in the city do not stop working intensively with the help and funding of the local government. "All the sites in the country, including those for the old medieval capitals, are frozen and waiting for funding from the Culture Ministry, if there is any. There are 150 plans submitted and all are waiting, only we have secured funding from the Municipality," Kisiov underlined.

Deputy Mayor Plamen Panov, head of the Culture, Architecture and Tourism Department, pointed out that since 2020 Plovdiv Municipality has invested BGN 1.250 million for archaeological research.
