The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) on Monday signed a partnership agreement with the National Archaeological Institute with Museum with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The agreement was signed by museum’s Director Associate Professor Dr. Hristo Popov and BTA Director General Kiril Valchev at BTA’s National Press Club.

BTA Director General Valchev said that this is the oldest museum in Bulgaria and was founded after Bulgaria’s liberation from the Ottoman rule at the imitative of Marin Drinov.

He added that BTA has already signed agreements to present their activities with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the National Ethnographic Museum and as of July 16 with the Institute of Astronomy with the Rozhen National Astronomical Observatory.

Dr. Hristo Popov said that over the past years the Bulgarian archaeology has had many achievements but that the information is inconsistent and the agreement is a way to correct that.

He said that later on Monday a working group from Los Angeles’ J. Paul Getty Museum will arrive after in April the National Archeological Museum and the Getty Museum signed an agreement for an exhibition on Thrace and Thracian culture.

Bulgaria will provide two thirds of the exhibits in the overall display. The exhibition will open next year, said Popov.

At the end of September an exhibition will open in Sofia together with the Republic of North Macedonia and in 2025 in Serbia, he said.

Valchev said that in addition to presenting the work of archaeologists, BTA could provide free access to its network of press clubs, where archaeologists can present their achievement to local media.
