Nikolay Minkov of Srednogorie Med Industrial Cluster:
"There's Business in the 'Death' of an
Asset Too"

Sofia, December 11 (BTA) - Addressing a roundtable on "Assets
and Facilities 2014: Life Cycle, Repairs and Maintenance
Management", Nikolay Minkov, Executive Director of Srednogorie
Med Industrial Cluster, said that there is business even in the
"death" of an asset and it is a subject for discussion what
value added ought to be sought.

The event is organized by Srednogorie Med Industrial Cluster at
the Elieff Center for Education and Culture.

Minkov recalled that an EU strategy was defined this last summer
with a focus on waste or retired assets from which value added
can be derived.

Interviewed by BTA, Minkov said it had been decided at the forum
that a Bulgarian Association for Management and Maintenance of
Assets and Facilities would be set up. If the politicians ask
the question "Who?" in their context, people in the real economy
set great store by the answer to this question when the subject
is a mismanaged dam, a collapsed overhang of a building, or
stolen rails, said Minkov. He added that the management and
investments in those facilities is a challenge to society and
the economy.

Minkov said that in 2009 the European Federation of National
Maintenance Societies invited Bulgaria to join in. The new
Association is expected to attract capital-intensive sectors,
employer organizations and sectoral unions. Minkov said
capital-intensive companies include water and sewerage
companies, large companies interested in having their assets
managed, power plants, roads, railway stations, ports and
airports. PK/DD
