Police conducted an operation at the refugee centre in Sofia's Ovcha Kupel district on Thursday evening. The police were checking on compliance with the regulations.

There was massive police presence, including some heavily armed and masked officers. Police dogs were also involved in the operation.

Stefan Ivanov, Deputy Director of the Sofia Directorate of the Interior, said all three temporary accommodation centres in Sofia were subject to checks at the moment. Every person and every room were being checked for banned and dangerous objects and drugs and unauthorized presence of persons.

Another Deputy Director, Miroslav Danailov, said checks would be made more often from now on. So far, persons with expired documents were found during the operation, who had to be moved to another town. A person with a criminal record was found in Ovcha Kupel.
