site.btaPresident Radev Discusses Construction of National Concert Hall with Sofia Mayor, Heads of Music Organizations

Bulgarian artists deserve a national concert hall that matches the excellence of their talent - a functional and aesthetically pleasing building that provides excellent conditions for both artists and audiences, President Rumen Radev said at a working meeting here on Monday with the leadership of Sofia Municipality and three music organizations, Radev's Press Secretariat reported. 

The talks were attended by Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev, as well as Sofia's chief architect Zdravko Zdravkov, the director of the Sofia Philharmonic Nayden Todorov, the Director of the Sofia Opera and Ballet Prof. Plamen Kartalov and the Director of the Stefan Makedonski National Music Theatre, Edelina Kaneva. 

At Monday's meeting, the main features of the music hall project and the possible sites in Sofia where the building could be built were discussed, taking into account both the professional requirements of the musicians and the conditions of the urban lanscape.

"The Bulgarian artists undoubtedly deserve their own music temple, but the implementation of this project will also bring economic benefits to Sofia and promote cultural tourism," President Radev said during the meeting.

Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev said the Sofia Municipality was ready for dialogue with the professional circles to find a suitable place for the construction of the music hall. In his words, the project is in line with the priorities of the local government leadership in supporting culture and tourism.

The music institutions stated the need for the project to be built in an accessible location, taking into account the various specifics related to concert activities.

The initiative to build a new national concert hall under the President's auspices was officially announced in February 2021 at the presidential institution. In support of the venture, President Radev held a series of meetings with representatives of competent institutions and cultural circles to promote the project and its implementation.

The project for the construction of a new acoustic concert hall in Sofia, called "New Temple of Music", is the initiative of the Bogaria Foundation, the Sofia Philharmonic, the Union of Music and Dance Artists, and is implemented under the auspices of President Rumen Radev.

A public discussion of the project was held in early October last year.
