Bulgaria at the Olympics:
Jury's Decision Deprives Weightlifter
Hristo Hristov of Bronze

Tokyo, August 3 (BTA special correspondent Dimiter Velyov) - Bulgarian weightlifter Hristo Hristov said he feels robbed after the jury decision deprived him of the bronze medal in the men's 109 kg Group A event here on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old youth world champion finished his participation in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics with a personal record in a big competition of 408 kg (189 kg in snatch and 219 kg in clean&jerk). His last clean&jerk attempt at 222 kg was initially considered successful but two reviews later, the judges marked it as unsuccessful. Hristov thus remained fifth, only two kilograms away from the bronze.

"I feel truly robbed. The people watching me, all my friends who were supporting me, saw the truth. God is my witness, I made no mistake. All was perfect. I do not want to discuss the jury. We have rules, I simply want to say that I feel robbed and that is what happened," Hristov told BTA.

He said he plans to take a break before returning to the training hall to become even stronger.
