The National Polytechnic Museum is celebrating its 67th anniversary with an exhibition devoted to the invention of the typewriter 310 years ago. The exhibition opens on May 13, the museum said.

The typewriter became one of the most widely manufactured devices worldwide, before the advent of smartphones. This innovation created a whole new sector of employment - the position of office worker - and marked the beginning of gender equality. The typewriter served as a catalyst for women's emancipation. Thanks to it, women entered the work environment en masse, gaining independence and financial stability, the museum said.

Many famous writers used a typewriter for its reliability, precision and ease of use to create the literary masterpieces we know today, the organizers said.
