The Sofia Philharmonic will perform the Le carnaval romain Overture and the Les nuits d'été song cycle by Hector Berlioz and excerpts from Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet ballet under the baton of Marko Letonja at the Bulgaria Concert Hall on April 4. Mezzo Valentina Kutzarova is the soloist.

Slovenian conductor Marko Letonja has been Chief Conductor and General Music Director of the Bremen Philharmonic since 2018. He won the 2022 Gramophone Award for Vocal Album of the Year and received the Helpmann Award for Best Symphony Orchestra Concert for a concert performance of Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde.

Valentina Kutzarova was born in Varna (on the Black Sea). She studied at the Prof Pancho Vladigerov National Music Academy of Sofia under Prof Lili Stefanova. After training at the Opera Studio in Zurich, she has performed in many of Europe's most renowned opera houses. She has sung some of the most important roles for mezzo-soprano, including in Massenet's Werther and Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito, Idomeneo, Così fan tutte, Le Nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni.
