The new management of Bulgarian gas supplier Bulgargaz has decided to claim EUR 400 million from Gazprom for the 2022 suspension of natural gas supplies. The decision was made public by Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov at a news briefing in the Ministry with the participation of the new Bulgargaz management.

Gazprom cut off gas supplies to Bulgaria as of April 27, 2022, after Bulgaria refused to pay in rubles as demanded by Moscow.

The Minister explained that the claim will first be addressed to Gazprom Export with a deadline set for voluntary payment. If the other side does not agree, Bulgargaz will take the case to the Arbitration Court with the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris.

The size of the claim is based on legal and financial analyses, involving international law firms, said the Minister. He added that the legal analysis was "considerably delayed".
