The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry said Friday it is closely monitoring the development of the situation in the Middle East after media reports of missile strikes by Israel on targets in Iran. The Ministry is in direct contact with the Bulgarian diplomatic missions in the region.

Relevant instructions have been issued, including measures to ensure the security of their staff and the Bulgarian citizens there.

The Ministry is in contact with partner countries and is ready to take the necessary actions according to the further development of the situation.

Late Thursday, ABC television reported that Israeli missiles had hit a target in Iran. Iranian state media reported an explosion in the central part of the country days after Iran retaliated by launching drones at Israel.

The government press service said earlier on Friday that caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev and the government are in "constant coordination" with the competent departments and security services, and are monitoring the situation, and expressed readiness for evacuation of Bulgarian citizens. At the moment, there is no direct military threat for Bulgaria, the government press service said.
