EU Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson and Romania's Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs, Marian-Catalin Predoiu, will come to Bulgaria on Thursday for a working visit, the Interior Ministry's press service reported. They have been invited by the caretaker Minister of Interior Kalin Stoyanov.

During the visit, Stoyanov and Predoiu are expected to sign a bilateral Protocol amending the Agreement on cross-border police cooperation in criminal proceedings between the Governments of Bulgaria and Romania.

The accession of Bulgaria and Romania to Schengen is an important step, Johansson said on the occasion of the presentation of a report on the state of Schengen a year before the 40th anniversary of the abolition of internal European borders.

The revised Schengen legislation and the first but important step with the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to Schengen, as well as the strengthening of the European border agency Frontex, are important progress, said Johansson in Brussels on Tuesday on the occasion of the presentation of a report on the state of Schengen a year before the 40th anniversary of the abolition of internal European borders.
