Smuggled coin-making equipment was found by customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint during an inspection of a truck entering from Turkiye, the Customs Agency said on Monday.

On the evening of May 3, a tractor-trailer with Turkish registration arrived at the checkpoint. The driver, a Turkish citizen, provided regular documents for the goods being transported to Western Europe. In the course of the control actions, among the 126 declared parcels, undeclared goods with a specific purpose - for the production of decorative coins and replicas of old coins - were found. The undeclared items were found to include 9 dies for making coins with inscriptions in Turkish, 10 refractory vessels for melting metal, an engraving machine, an induction furnace, a weighing scale, 30 ring measures and 3 moulds. Boxes of 12 banknote counting machines were also found among the undeclared goods.

A statement was drawn up against the truck driver under the Customs Act for attempting to smuggle goods across the state border without the knowledge and permission of the customs authorities. Work on the case is continuing.
