The 16th edition of the specialized agricultural exhibition BATA AGRO opened at Stara Zagora Airport on Monday in the presence of caretaker Minister of Agriculture and Food Georgi Tahov. Participating are 216 companies which are showing the latest in farming equipment and innovations on a net exhibition area of nearly 36,000 square meters, said the organizers from the Bulgarian Association of Traders of Agromachinery.

Among the participants are representatives of the world's largest agricultural machinery brands, seed, fertilizer and crop protection sellers, a wide range of agricultural products and services companies, including spare parts, service operations, financial institutions, consulting companies, and automotive companies.

In his opening remarks, Agriculture Minister Tahov dwelled on the significance of advanced equipment for modern agriculture.

Daniel Minev, Chairman of the Board of the Bulgarian Association of Agricultural Machinery Traders, said that the scale of the exhibition has more than doubled since the first edition of BATA AGRO in 2010. He pointed out that BATA AGRO is the professional platform for agribusiness meeting in Bulgaria. "Here in one place we show all the innovations in machinery and technology for agriculture in the past year, you can see the machines in real conditions and you can also do field tests," he said.

Radostin Tanev, Deputy Mayor of Stara Zagora Municipality, welcomed the participants. "In recent years, the city has established itself as a centre of agribusiness in Bulgaria," he said.

The exhibition will be on until May 17.
