Over 9,000 Ukrainian Refugees Receive Support from Bulgarian Red Cross in Varna

Bulgarian Red Cross - Varna implemented four programmes for refugees from Ukraine in 2023, which have helped over 9,800 refugees and their families, Iliya Raev, Chair of the regional structure, said on Thursday during the organisation's annual meeting.

Raev said that the organisation also continued to provide humanitarian aid to socially vulnerable citizens, reaching 4,650 people. A total of 593 refugees were consulted in Varna under the health programme of the Bulgarian Red Cross and the World Health Organisation. 

A total of 51 associations with 7,750 members operate within Bulgarian Red Cross Varna, said Raev. In 2023, more than 750 volunteers participated in a variety of their initiatives. 

In 2024, Bulgarian Red Cross - Varna will continue to actively support socially vulnerable people and carry out various humanitarian activities, with an emphasis on water activity and special attention to the work with students, said Raev.

Bulgarian Red Cross Director General Krasimir Gigov and Deputy Director General Slavita Djambazova were among the guests attending the meeting in Varna.
