The Bulgarian Medical Association (BMA) and the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) reached a consensus on the sanctions to be imposed on hospitals that fail to provide the basic wage rates set in the collective agreement. The sanctions will start from June, 2024, Dr Ivan Madjarov, President of the BMA, told journalists here on Friday. The two sides failed to agree on the issue on Wednesday and scheduled a new meeting for Friday.

Consensus is reached, so that true preventive medicine mechanisms can work, said NHIF Supervisory Board Chair and Deputy Health Minister Mihail Okoliyski. Patients will be provided with better prophylaxis, with more tests and doctors will be motivated with a higher salary if they do more prophylactic medical check-ups, added Okoliyski.
