site.btaRomanian Parliament Adopts Decision to Establish Regional Special Operations Component Command in Targu Mures

At the request of President Klaus Iohannis, the Romanian Parliament adopted a decision to establish a Regional Special Operations Component Command in the Targu Mures garrison as a non-permanent structure on the principle of lead nation, with rotational command.

The organization and functioning of the Command will be established bilaterally by Romania and Bulgaria, local media reported.

In his letter to Parliament, the Romanian President said that in light of the radical change in the international security environment caused by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, NATO has completed the process of developing new plans necessary for the implementation of the Concept for Deterrence and Defence of the Euro-Atlantic Area.

Given Romania and Bulgaria’s proximity to the conflict zone, the military structures of both countries have put forward a project to set up the Regional Special Operations Component Command. Their common intention is to achieve the Command's full operational capability by the end of 2024.
