Bulgarian translators and Arabists are among the winners of the 9th Sheikh Hamad Awards for Translation and International Understanding, the Bulgarian Embassy in Doha said on Facebook. Prof Tsvetan Theophanov, Maya Tzenova and Veselina Rayzhekova received the award from the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

The Embassy said: "A remarkable Bulgarian presence and well-deserved recognition for the Bulgarian school of Arabic studies and translation."

The ceremony was attended by sheikhs and ministers, members of diplomatic missions accredited to Qatar and guests, including writers, translators and researchers, the Qatar Tribune reported.
