Nearly 140 km of roads in Burgas Region are being asphalted in preparation for the Giro d’Italia cycling race, the Road Infrastructure Agency said on Tuesday.

The works cover sections of roads I-6, I-9 and II-99, while two boulevards and a key street in Burgas are also being repaired ahead of the event.

The repair works cover three sections: part of road I-6 from after Lozenets village to Vetren village, from km 428 to km 485, road I-9 from Aheloy to Sarafovo, from km 215 to km 229, and the second-class road II-99 between Kraymorie and Alepu, from km 0 to km 28.

The agency said the old asphalt surface has been milled on all sections and the necessary improvements to the road structure have been carried out. Ditches and roadside areas have been cleaned, excess vegetation has been removed, and drainage and visibility have improved. Asphalt is now being laid on all three sections, after which road markings will be put down. Work is also continuing in parallel to reinforce the road shoulders and restore drainage facilities.

The repairs will be completed by the end of April.

Two boulevards and a key street in Burgas are also being repaired for the upcoming Giro d’Italia. They are Hristo Botev Boulevard, 24th Infantry Regiment Street and Ivan Vazov Boulevard.
