The parliamentary Committee on Economic Policy, Investment and Industry approved its internal rules of procedure at its first meeting on Wednesday and determined the size and composition of the standing Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Anti-Monopoly Oversight.
The seven-member subcommittee will be chaired by Progressive Bulgaria MP Daniel Parushev. Its members are Progressive Bulgaria MP Ivan Angelov, GERB–UDF MP Aleksandar Ivanov, Movement for Rights and Freedoms MP Bayram Bayram, Continue the Change Deputy Floor Leader Ivaylo Shotev and Democratic Bulgaria Deputy Floor Leader Dzhipo Dzhipov. The seat allocated to Vazrazhdane will be filled at a later stage.
During the discussion, Progressive Bulgaria MP and Deputy Committee Chair Katya Staykova proposed that her parliamentary group have two representatives on the subcommittee because of its larger size in Parliament. Democratic Bulgaria MP and Deputy Committee Chair Martin Dimitrov objected, arguing that such an arrangement would undermine the principle of parity in the subcommittee's composition.
Committee Chair and Progressive Bulgaria MP Stefan Belchev put the proposal to a vote, describing it as a symbolic gesture that would not materially affect the subcommittee's work.
