The Finance Ministry has taken on new debt worth EUR 150 million, according to information from the Ministry and the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) published on their websites on Tuesday.

The Finance Ministry reopened an issue of 5-year government securities which was launched on 28 January 2026. The issue is EUR-denominated, maturing on 28 January 2031, with an interest coupon of 2.75%.

The volume of the issue in circulation was increased by EUR 150 million at the auction held on 20 April 2026, reaching a nominal value of EUR 450 million. The annual weighted average yield reported at the auction is 3.33%.

The total subscribed amount reached EUR 224.1 million, which corresponds to a bid-to-cover ratio of 1.49. The spread reported as against the analogous German Bunds is 68 basis points, the Finance Ministry added.

This was the eighth government securities auction in 2026. So far, the total issued debt amounts to EUR 1.05 billion, according to MoF data. After the latest auction, total new borrowing in 2026 has risen to EUR 1.2 billion.

Under the Public Finance Act, in the context of an extended budget, the Council of Ministers may incur new state debt only for refinancing existing obligations, and only up to the amount of annual repayments on already contracted debt.
