The Association of Banks in Bulgaria (ABB), in partnership with the Association of Economic Schools in Bulgaria (AESB), opened European Money Week with the national stage of the European Money Quiz, ABB said on Monday.
The initiative, coordinated by the European Banking Federation, aims to promote financial literacy among high school students. More than 350 students from 21 schools in 17 towns competed in the national final, held at the University of National and World Economy. The winners are Stanimir Stanchev from Varna's High School of Trade and Velin Gyurov from the National Trade and Banking High School in Sofia. They will represent Bulgaria at the European final in Brussels on May 18-19.
Before the final, ABB Secretary General James Jolovski said that “Bulgaria has steadily integrated into one of the largest financial literacy initiatives in Europe,” noting the expansion from five schools in 2025 to 17 more schools in 2026 as evidence of growing interest. He added that financial knowledge and skills acquired in school are essential for forming “responsible and informed citizens”.
AESB Chair Daniela Feschiyan congratulated participants on their “great success” and high motivation and wished them a strong performance at the finals in Brussels.
