The health of the economy is measured not only in statistics but in the rules and conditions under which business operates, President Iliana Iotova said at the 2025 National Awards Business to the Rules ceremony in Sofia on Thursday. The event was organized by the Bulgarian Industrial Capital Association.

When there are no rules in the economy, many lose, Iotova said. She explained that the main victims are working people, who do not receive the income they deserve and are denied social protection.

Bulgarian businesses also suffer because of unfair competition and a lack of predictability, the State loses also, as it often fails to collect revenue legally owed to it, Iotova said. She added that this amounts to billions of euro that could be used to improve healthcare and education and to support greater, higher-quality investment in the country.
