Head of State Iliana Iotova awarded distinguished cultural figures with the President's Badge of Honour during a ceremony here on Thursday.

Long-standing secretary of National Community Centre “Zaria 1858” in Haskovo, Southern Bulgaria, Aleksander Milushev was awarded for his contribution to development and protection of community centres’ traditions.

Poet and publicist Atanas Kapralov was honoured for his literary and public activity, as well as for his active engagement with preserving the authority of contemporary Bulgarian literature.

PhD Veselin Aleksandrov received the award due to his donation activities of great public benefit.

Painter-restorer, iconography Assoc. Prof. PhD Elena Kantareva was honored for her academic contributions in developing Bulgarian fresco schooling.

Public figure PhD Ivan Angelov received the President's Badge due to his efforts in maintaining library work.

The prominent and widely acknowledged musician, composer and producer Mitko Shterev was awarded for his active work, devoted to creative influence on contemporary Bulgarian music.

President's Badge of Honour was also awarded to Prof. Ge Zhiqiang - lecturer of Bulgarian language in Beijing Foreign Studies University. Due to his contributions in distributing Bulgarian cultural heritage, as well as enhancing friendly relationships between Bulgaria and China, the Chinese lecturer will be awarded at a ceremony in the Beijing University by the Bulgarian Ambassador Andrey Tehov.

President Iotova congratulated all the honored public figures on their contributions to preserving the Bulgarian culture and affirming the Bulgarian identity in such challenging times.

In a speech of thanks on behalf of the awarded, Kapralov emphasized that language and culture are of fundamental importance for Bulgaria’s future.

The ceremony was attended by Education and Science Minister Georgi Valchev, Culture Minister Evtim Miloshev and Chinese Ambassador Dai Qingli.
