As part of a joint initiative, titled “Musicorum Via. Two Academies – One Stage”, the Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences presented the concert performance Spring Excitement at the Prof. Marin Drinov Hall. The concert brought together students from all departments and specializations of the Vocal Faculty of the Academy. Speaking to the Bulgarian News Agency on Friday, Violeta Gorcheva, Dean of the Vocal Faculty at the National Music Academy, said the project had long been a shared ambition.

According to Gorcheva, the performance represented a “dream production” for the faculty, bringing students together in a joint acting and singing project that showcases the diversity of their training.

The programme featured works by Queen, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Justin Hurwitz, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Galt MacDermot, Giacomo Puccini, among others. The concert also included the premiere of the song “Tears” by Simeon Angelov, a student at the academy.

The performance was directed by Prof. Gorcheva. Members of the directing team included Stanislava Rizova, Ognyan Draganov, Monika Makaveeva, Mihaela Genova and Gabriela Marinova.

The script was written by Stanislava Rizova, while the choreography was created by Radoslav Radev, Monika Makaveeva and Sabina Koseva. The piano accompaniment was provided by lecturers Yoanna Tsvetkova and Bozhidar Penev.

Gorcheva said the production’s wide stylistic range reflects the structure of the Vocal Faculty itself. The repertoire spans classical opera, rock opera, musicals and popular songs, creating what she described as a rich and varied artistic palette.

She described the performers as “the hope of Bulgaria’s musical and theatre stage”.
