Eight research papers by researchers from the Institute of Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) at the St Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia have been accepted for presentation at the International Conference on Learning Representations 2026, one of the world’s most prestigious conferences in the field of artificial intelligence, Sofia University said on Monday.

The accepted papers cover key areas in contemporary artificial intelligence research - reasoning capabilities of large language models, methods for image restoration under various types of degradation, evaluations of multimodal reasoning in AI models, the creation of large corpora for analyzing mathematical proofs generated by language models, new approaches to 3D geometric reconstruction, and the development of more accurate and reliable models through advanced training techniques.

The research is the work of researchers from INSAIT and their colleagues from leading universities in Asia, Europe, and North America, including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), ETH Zurich, and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

For yet another year, Bulgaria ranks first in Eastern Europe and among the leaders in Europe in terms of the number of accepted publications at the conference. This year’s edition of the forum will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from April 23 to 27. Participants traditionally include representatives from leading technology companies such as Amazon, Google, and Meta, Sofia University noted.

INSAIT is the first institute of its kind in Eastern Europe to provide research conditions matching those of leading Western universities and institutes. It is structured as a special unit of Sofia University and was established in partnership with Switzerland’s ETH Zurich and EPFL, two of the world’s top technological universities. The institute is guided and advised by leading scientists from leading US, European and Israeli universities and research laboratories. INSAIT’s primary focus is scientific excellence: conducting world-class research, attracting outstanding international scholars, and training the next generation of students and technology leaders.
