The government approved a draft agreement between the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the Regulation of Labour Migration.

The Agreement is intended to apply to citizens of Bulgaria and Uzbekistan who have an employment contract and a residence permit in the territory of the other country. The purpose of the document is to provide an additional opportunity to secure workers for sectors of the Bulgarian economy facing labour shortages.

The Agreement establishes the possibility of employing Uzbek workers in Bulgaria without a separate work permit for a period of up to one year, with the option of subsequent extensions for a total period of up to three years. It also regulates the exchange of seasonal workers between the two countries for a period of up to nine months per year.

Workers employed under the Agreement will have the same labour rights, obligations, and workplace safeguards as those applicable to local workers.
