site.btaGeorgi Milkov and Konrad Adenauer Foundation Receive Diplomatic Institute's Docendo Discimus Honorary Awards
Journalist, international analyst, TV host and author Georgi Milkov and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation received the Diplomatic Institute's annual Docendo Discimus honorary awards for 2026 at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sofia.
The awards carry the institute's motto, Docendo Discimus, meaning "By teaching, we learn", Diplomatic Institute Director Tanya Mihaylova said while presenting the distinctions. She noted that through the awards the institute seeks to recognize the contribution of those who have supported its work.
Milkov received the award in the Bulgarian Citizen category for his contribution to establishing the institute as a diplomatic school at national and international level, as a centre for public diplomacy and a guardian of the history and achievements of Bulgarian diplomacy.
He said: "Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to observe the work of Bulgarian diplomacy from the front row. I have witnessed wars and revolutions, and what impressed me were the negotiations and diplomatic shuttle efforts - work that is difficult to describe. I have witnessed successes of Bulgarian diplomacy achieved through professionalism, knowledge and patience." According to him, good diplomacy and quality journalism will become increasingly necessary.
Mihaylova said: "When we speak about Georgi Milkov's contribution, we speak about sharing invaluable practical experience." She noted that Milkov helps society better understand the world, and helps the Diplomatic Institute maintain a high level of professional training.
The Konrad Adenauer Foundation is the winner in the Foreign Institution category, with the award accepted by the foundation's director Norbert Beckmann. The distinction was presented for the foundation's active partnership with the Diplomatic Institute and in connection with the 150th birth anniversary of Konrad Adenauer, who laid the foundation for a united Europe.
"Without diplomacy, we will not be able to stand united and achieve success," Beckmann said. Europe has managed to live in peace for such a long time thanks to the vision of prominent politicians, he added. Beckmann said that next year Bulgaria will celebrate 20 years of EU membership, and that Europe would not be complete without Bulgaria.
Mihaylova said: "The Konrad Adenauer Foundation has become our partner and together we have organized various conferences and events related to current issues, security and other topics. We value the foundation's support for our publishing activities."
Deputy Foreign Minister Hristo Polendakov said: "Today we are encouraged by the fact that when we make efforts, they are recognized sooner or later." He wished the award recipients success and continued cooperation.
Deputy Foreign Minister Hristo Dikanski also attended the event.
