site.btaDemocratic Bulgaria Urges President to Convene Consultative Council on National Security

Democratic Bulgaria (DB) has sent a letter to President Iliana Iotova urging her to convene the Consultative Council on National Security (CCNS) as soon as possible, the coalition's press centre said here on Monday. 

According to the letter, the war in Ukraine, instability in the Black Sea region, escalating tensions in the Middle East, and the changing security environment in Europe require a comprehensive assessment of the threats and a common position by the responsible State institutions.

DB notes that, under the law, regular meetings of the CCNS must be held at least once every three months, and that the current highly complex security environment requires timely institutional dialogue, coordinated action and a clearly articulated national position.

The lack of predictability, consistency and coordination in Bulgaria's foreign policy positions undermines the confidence of the country's partners and allies and limits its ability to defend its national interests amid deepening crises, DB said in its letter to the President.
