site.btaAudit Office Refers Four Conflict-of-Interest Cases for Asset Checks

The Bulgarian National Audit Office (BNAO) is referring four cases involving established conflicts of interest to the Anti-Corruption Commission and the Unlawfully Acquired Assets Forfeiture Commission (UAAFC) for further checks, the BNAO press office said on Monday.

The cases concern Andriyana Tatarova, recently removed from her position as Executive Director of the National Palace of Culture (NDK) in Sofia; Dinko Yanev, a member of the Management Board of the State Enterprise National Production Centre; Todor Todorov, Executive Director of Dr Stamen Iliev General Hospital for Active Treatment in Montana; and Galin Kanev, Director of the Mathematics and Natural Sciences School in Dobrich.

The decision of the audit authority is to notify the UAAFC so that it can investigate whether there is a discrepancy between the income and acquired assets of Tatarova, Yanev, Todorov and Kanev. The decision was made in accordance with the Unlawfully Acquired Assets Forfeiture Act.

A final finding of a conflict of interest is grounds for dismissal from office, unless otherwise provided for by the Constitution, the Statute of the European System of Central Banks and the European Central Bank, or by special legislation (Article 124, Paragraph 1 of the National Audit Office Act).
