site.btaNew Bulgarian University Hosts 390 International Students in 2025/2026 Academic Year

The New Bulgarian University (NBU) has 390 international students in the current 2025/2026 academic year, including 311 from EU member states and 79 from non-EU countries, the university told BTA.

Each year, NBU enrolls between 100 and 150 new international students. This year they represent 22 EU countries as well as a number of non-EU countries.

The most popular fields among international students at NBU include Psychology and Behavioral Sciences, Political Science and International Relations, Business, Management and Economics, and Arts, Design and Music.

Even though English-taught programmes attract the largest number of international students, many foreign students also choose Bulgarian-language programmes, beginning with a preparatory year focused on Bulgarian language studies.

The university has seen steady growth in international student enrollment, supported by easier mobility following Bulgaria’s accession to the Schengen Area and increasing international interest.  According to NBU, students choose the university not only for its tuition fees but also for the quality of its academic environment, modern facilities, experienced faculty, personalized approach to teaching, and strong international partnerships.
