Forest Beach - Chernomorets Hut, a beach near Varna that has been awarded the Blue Flag eco-label for four consecutive years, welcomes visitors with umbrellas, walkways and facilities made entirely from environmentally friendly natural materials, Stanko Stoyanov, representative of the concessionaire, told BTA.
According to Stoyanov, the greatest challenge is obtaining the certification for the first time. Once it has been awarded, efforts focus on maintaining and further improving the standards required for the distinction.
As the beach is located in a bay surrounded by forest, its development concept is fully aligned with the natural environment, he said.
Most of the furniture is made of wood, the walkways across the sand are constructed from coconut fibres, and the beach umbrellas have thatched roofs, Stoyanov explained.
He expressed regret that despite ashtrays being placed on every table, some visitors continue to discard cigarette butts directly onto the sand. According to him, the beach staff make constant efforts to maintain cleanliness, but greater adherence to basic hygiene rules by beachgoers would significantly facilitate this work.
A similar problem exists with separate waste collection. Stoyanov said that only a small proportion of visitors currently follow the intended use and colour coding of waste containers, making the process of sorting and recycling waste more difficult.
BTA will present all 32 Bulgarian beaches and ports awarded with the Blue Flag in 2026 by the international jury of the Copenhagen Programme. The first Blue Flag in Bulgaria was raised on Sunny Beach on July 4, 1995.
