site.btaBurgas Region Steps Up Traffic Control for Summer Season

Over 240 uniformed officers, supported by specialized equipment, will take part in intensified road traffic control across Burgas Region during the summer, chief commissioner Nikolay Nenkov of the Burgas Regional Police Directorate said Friday. He spoke at a briefing after a midnight specialized operation aimed at dangerous driving, unregulated racing and drifting, as well as driving under the influence alcohol and drugs. 

During the night operation, 102 people and 89 vehicles were checked, resulting in 45 electronic ticket fines, one statement of traffic violation, and several violation reports. Police also emphasized preventive checks, including on repeat offenders and luxury car drivers. 

For the summer season, 456 additional officers from across the country will be deployed, along with 16 foreign police officers from Romania, Poland, Germany, and Czechia. Authorities have identified five main crash-prone road sections and 10 locations used for illegal racing and drifting. Increased patrols will cover major routes including the Trakia Motorway and roads between Burgas, Aytos, Karnobat, Pomorie, Nessebar, Primorsko, Sozopol, and Tsarevo, as well as secondary roads, Nenkov stated. 

Controls will be dynamic, combining uniformed and undercover teams with camera-equipped vehicles, supported by drone surveillance. Checks will continue throughout the season, including in resort areas like Sunny Beach, where electric scooters remain a persistent issue.
