Democratic Bulgaria (DB) will challenge the allocation of seats in the Central Election Commission (CEC) before the Constitutional Court, the party's press centre said on Tuesday.
According to DB, President Iliana Iotova rejected the coalition's arguments that an incorrect methodology had been used to calculate party quotas for the appointment of a new CEC composition. At the start of consultations with parties represented in the 52nd National Assembly on Tuesday, the President presented the objection submitted by DB regarding the distribution of seats.
Yes, Bulgaria co-chair Bozhidar Bozhanov called on the President's Office and the parliamentary administration to seek an opinion from the current CEC, which has an established practice of applying a different calculation method.
DB argues that applying the methodology used by the CEC would entitle Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB), the coalition that contested the elections for the 52nd National Assembly, to three seats in the future commission instead of the two envisaged in the presidential decree.
Bozhanov said the coalition would seek the necessary signatures to refer the matter to the Constitutional Court, the statement added.
