Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova confirmed Bulgaria’s support for Moldova’s European integration during a phone call with Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi on Tuesday, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry said here on Tuesday.

Petrova said Bulgaria was ready to share its practical experience in the process of joining the European Union.

The two ministers discussed the traditionally good relations between Bulgaria and Moldova, built on long-standing partnership, strong historical and cultural ties and shared European principles. The importance of the Bulgarian community in Moldova was highlighted as a key factor in strengthening bilateral dialogue and developing cooperation between the two countries, the Foreign Ministry added.

Petrova expressed gratitude to the Moldovan authorities for fulfilling their political commitment regarding the future of the Taraclia District, which has a majority ethnic Bulgaria population. She noted that the proposed option, which preserves the territorial integrity of the district, the powers of its administration and the possibility of direct political representation of citizens, creates optimal conditions for the further development of the Bulgarian national minority and the full realization of the ethnocultural rights of its members.

At the end of May, Moldovan President Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Rumen Radev discussed in a phone call the deepening of bilateral cooperation.
