Rumen Radev, leader of Progressive Bulgaria, called for preserving Bulgaria's spirit, military traditions and historical memory in a Facebook post marking the Day of Valour and the Bulgarian Armed Forces on May 6.

"Our common duty is to preserve the Bulgarian spirit, military traditions and the historical memory of our people and pass them on untarnished to future generations," Radev wrote.

He also congratulated those who, in his words, had exposed public injustices over the years, stood against unfairness and, through their determination in public squares and on election day, defended Bulgarian statehood and led the country "beyond fear and resignation".

Addressing members of the armed forces, Radev wished health, peace and success to "the people in uniform who have devoted their lives to defending national sovereignty, citizens' security and the inviolability of the homeland".
