Tourism Ministry expects a good summer season, caretaker Tourism Minister Irena Georgieva said in an interview for the Darik Radio on Saturday.

Georgieva noted that several factors need to be coordinated by the administration in preparation for the season. In this regard, she said she held meetings late last week with representatives of the tourism sector from both the Northern and the Southern Black Sea coast.

Another important element is the readiness of municipalities, as they are largely responsible for infrastructure in tourist resorts, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring a comfortable environment for visitors. Georgieva has already held talks with representatives of Varna Municipality and with the Mayor of Burgas.

Control authorities ensuring order and the safety of tourists are also an important factor. “We will probably hold a meeting with them at the beginning of April,” the Minister said.

She added that spring tourism fairs are currently taking place, with the largest one being ITB Berlin. “I had the opportunity to talk with our partners who influence the interest of their tourists in Bulgaria. We expect a good summer season,” Georgieva said. She added that preparations are going well and expressed hope that no extraordinary circumstances will disrupt them.

The Minister also said that she is optimistic about the organization of the cycling race Giro d’Italia in Bulgaria. Georgieva described the event as an exceptional opportunity for Bulgaria. “This is one of the two major global competitions in the world of cycling, and the opportunity for the first three stages – the so-called Grande Partenza – to take place here is a chance to promote Bulgaria as a tourist destination,” she said. According to Georgieva, the race reaches more than 800 million viewers in over 180 countries.

Georgieva noted that since it is a sporting event, the leading role belongs to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, with which a meeting has already been held. She also said she met on Friday with representatives of the Italian side of the organizing committee. The Minister added that outdoor and radio advertising campaigns are underway, promotional videos have been prepared to accompany the race, and improvements to the route are being carried out.

On February 11, the Council of Ministers approved funding for 2026, amounting to EUR 8,675,675.00, distributed among the budgets of the Youth and Sports Ministry, Tourism Ministry, Health Ministry, Interior Ministry, and the Regional Development and Public Works Ministry.
