The parliamentary group of the Alliance for Rights and Freedoms (ARF) Thursday extended greetings to Muslims in Bulgaria on the occasion of the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, calling for unity, compassion and the preservation of religious and ethnic peace.

In a declaration delivered from the rostrum of the National Assembly, ARF floor leader Hayri Sadakov described Ramadan as a time of mercy, forgiveness, gratitude, shared humanity, fasting and good deeds. He said the month carries important messages not only for believers but for society as a whole.

According to Sadakov, Ramadan promotes compassion for the vulnerable, respect for one’s neighbor, care for family and community, and the power of reconciliation. These values, he said, help make a nation resilient in difficult times marked by division, poverty and uncertainty.

He emphasized that Bulgaria is home to diverse communities and religions, adding that the country’s strength lies in its ability to remain united despite differences, with mutual respect for traditions and a shared understanding that human dignity transcends ethnicity and religion.

Sadakov also called on political leaders and institutions to safeguard religious and ethnic peace as a matter of national security. He urged that holidays, faith and identity not be used for political purposes and stressed the need to build a state in which equal rights are a daily reality in education, healthcare, income and justice.

He concluded by wishing health, hope and peace to families, and extended greetings for a blessed Ramadan to Muslims in Bulgaria and around the world.
