Bulgaria's Ivan Vazov National Theatre will present its summer tour of Greece today, July 13, at the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) press club in Athens.
The press conference will provide details of the theatre's 13 performances of The Bacchae by Euripides, directed by Javor Gardev, which is being staged in ancient theatres across Greece.
The production has already had two premiere performances, on July 10 and 11, at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus as part of the Athens Epidaurus Festival.
The press conference will be attended by BTA Director General Kiril Valchev; Ivan Vazov National Theatre Director General Vasil Vasilev; Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA) Chief Executive Officer Christina-Dimitra Cinarelli; ANA-MPA Editor-in-Chief John Georgiou; National Theatre of Northern Greece Artistic Director Asterios Peltekis; theatre director Javor Gardev; co-producer Dimitris Arvanitis; actor Leonid Yovchev, who plays Dionysus; actress Loukia Michalopoulou, who portrays Agave; actor Alexandros Mylonas, who plays Cadmus; and actor Ivan Yurukov, who performs the role of the First Messenger.
The Bacchae is a co-production between the Athens Epidaurus Festival, Sofia's Ivan Vazov National Theatre and the National Theatre of Northern Greece. It brings together Bulgarian and Greek actors, while the music is performed live by the British band The Tiger Lillies. Euripides' last surviving tragedy tells the story of the god Dionysus' return to Thebes and his conflict with King Pentheus.
Representatives of various institutions and members of the local Bulgarian community have been invited to attend the press conference.
