A solemn Bulgarian-language liturgy was held on Saturday in the Sts. Constantine and Helena Bulgarian Orthodox church in the Turkish city of Edirne on the eve of May 24, the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian Alphabet, Education and Culture, and of Slavic Literature.
According to the Edirne-based news outlet Batı Ekspres, the service, led by priest Atanas Sultanov, brought together numerous worshippers from Bulgaria, members of the Bulgarian Orthodox community in Istanbul, and Bulgarian tourists who had travelled specifically to attend the celebration at the historic church, regarded as an important monument of Bulgarian cultural heritage in Turkiye.
According to the Edirne-based news outlet Bati Ekspres, the congregation also included visitors from the nearby Bulgarian cities of Svilengrad and Haskovo.
Among the official guests were Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Turkiye, Angel Cholakov, Bulgaria’s Consul General in Edirne Radoslava Kafedzhiyska, Chair of the Edirne Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sezai Irmak, among others.
