Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric approve of postponement of Kosovo's Law on Foreigners, Serbian media reported on Monday.
After a meeting with EU convoy Peter Sorensen on March 14, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti postponed with 12 months enforcement of the law on foreigners, according to which all foreign nationals entering Kosovo will have to obtain a residence permit. Belgrade condemned the law as targeting the local Serbian population.
Kurti stated that his government would issue Serbian workers and students temporary residence permits for the period of 12 months with the possibility of extension. Vucic said the decision was "a relief for the Serbian people".
Kosovo began the implementation of the Law on Vehicles on Monday, which stipulates that citizens residing in Kosovo can no longer drive vehicles with Serbian license plates. Serbians, however, will be allowed a period of three months to obtain local documents.
Djuric praised the commitment of EU and US representatives, as well as the broader international community to resolving the problems "created by the uncoordinated actions of Kurti's government". Vucic said that he will be soon conversing with Serbians, living in Kosovo, on how the postponement of the two laws is affecting them directly.
Serbia and Kosovo have been engaged in an EU-mediated dialogue on normalizing relations since 2011.
