The Derekoy-Malko Tarnovo border crossing between Turkiye and Bulgaria has been equipped with new electronic devices, including cameras, computers, printers, scanners and a shredder, the Haberler website reported.
The equipment was provided under the Cooperation Project for Safer Borders, implemented within the Turkiye-Bulgaria Cross-Border Cooperation Programme.
The project was carried out in partnership between the provinces of Kirklareli and Edirne and the regional directorates of Bulgaria’s Interior Ministry in Haskovo, Yambol and Burgas.
The devices were handed over during a ceremony held at the Derekoy border checkpoint, attended by Kirklareli Governor Ugur Turan, as well as officials and staff of the Turkish border and customs services.
In his address, Turan said the implementation of the Cooperation Project for Safer Borders between Turkiye and Bulgaria aims not only to enhance the technical and professional capacity of law enforcement officers working in border regions, but also to strengthen inter-institutional coordination.
Borders are among the most important indicators of state sovereignty and security, he said, adding that they are also a sphere for cooperation, mutual understanding and shared responsibility in addressing issues such as migration management, cross-border crime, human trafficking and illegal migration, problems no country can tackle alone.
