On August 13, 1904 - July 31 old style - a special board of educators tested ten-year-old Crown Prince Boris, later King Boris III.

July 30/August 12: The State Gazette published an august rescript dated June 25/July 8, addressed to Public Education Minister Ivan Shishmanov, whereby
Prince Ferdinand I asked that Crown Prince Boris appear before a special board to sit an examination provided for by the law of the land in order to qualify for the
pursuit of secondary education.

Sofia, July 31 [/August 13]. His Royal Highness notified the Minister of Public Education, Mr Dr Shishmanov, that his Royal Highness the Heir to the Throne, Prince Boris, has successfully completed his elementary education and invited the Minister to subject the crown prince to an examination as provided for by the law of the land before a special board so that the crown prince would qualify to pursue the course of secondary education.

His Royal Highness wishes that his Minister arrange the design of a plan for the secondary and higher education of Their Royal Highnesses the Princes Boris and Kyril. The rescript explicitly notes the outstanding performance of His Royal Highness Prince Boris of Tarnovo in the study of Bulgarian.
