site.btaBulgaria Accounts for 0.6% of EU's GDP in 2025, Share Doubles Since 2007

Bulgaria accounted for 0.6% of the European Union’s economic output in 2025, ranking 19th among EU Member States by gross domestic product (GDP), according to the latest Eurostat data published on Thursday.

Bulgaria’s economy has gradually increased its share of total EU GDP since the country joined the bloc in 2007. At the time, Bulgarian GDP accounted for 0.3% of the EU total. Eighteen years later, that share has doubled to 0.6%.

In nominal terms, Bulgaria’s GDP increased from EUR 32.46 billion in 2007 to nearly EUR 116.02 billion in 2025, a rise of 257.4%, according to Eurostat data.

By comparison, the EU’s GDP stood at nearly EUR 18.8 trillion in 2025, up from around EUR 10.8 trillion in 2007, an increase of 74.1%.

This means that Bulgaria’s nominal GDP grew at around three and a half times the rate of the EU economy as a whole between 2007 and 2025, the Eurostat data show.

Ten EU Member States each accounted for less than 1% of the bloc’s GDP in 2025: Malta (0.1%), Cyprus (0.2%), Estonia (0.2%), Latvia (0.2%), Slovenia (0.4%), Lithuania (0.4%), Luxembourg (0.5%), Croatia (0.5%), Bulgaria (0.6%) and Slovakia (0.7%).

In 2007, only four Member States had a smaller share of EU GDP than Bulgaria: Malta (0.1%), Estonia (0.2%), Cyprus (0.2%) and Latvia (0.2%).
