site.btaCulture Ministry Sends Team to Assist in Repairing Varna's Puppet Theatre after Storm

Culture Minister Evtim Miloshev is sending a team from the Ministry to assess the storm damage at Varna's Puppet Theatre and assist the staff, the Ministry’s press office said Wednesday. The decision comes after he talked with Theatre Director Vera Stoykova.

The heavy rainfall and the storm that struck Varna earlier on Wednesday caused serious damage to the summer stage and part of the Puppet Theatre building.

“I would like to thank all the institutions that provided assistance and, above all, the theatre staff, who, through their own efforts, managed to protect the main stage inside the building and a large portion of the props,” Minister Miloshev said, as quoted by the press office. He pledged that the Culture Ministry would assist in the timely restoration of the theatre.

Varna Municipality, too, pledged support for the repairs at the Puppet Theatre. Mayor Blagomir Kotsev said in a Facebook post that the Municipality will provide the necessary support for the restoration of the summer stage so that the Puppet Theatre can welcome its audience again. He noted that he had contacted Director Stoykova and had personally inspected the storm damage on site.

Nearly 100 reports were filed with Varna Municipality following a summer storm that swept through the city on Wednesday. The reports concerned flooded streets, underpasses, and buildings; and malfunctioning traffic lights. A report was also filed regarding two fallen trees in the Asparuhovo borough.
